Interview in April 2012 with M*A*S*H TV star Mike Farrell after his discussion at Leo Baeck Synagogue in Bel Air, CA about why the Death Penalty should be Repealed…

Above Terry Richards talks to MASH’s MIKE FARRELL about why we both OPPOSE THE DEATH PENALTY and are in FAVOR OF LIFE IN PRISON WITHOUT PAROLE instead…

Life without parole versus the Death Penalty saves $184M annually in California says M*A*S*H’s Mike Farrell who has publicly long opposed the Death Penalty for those and other reasons Farrell told the Community of Elders at Leo Baeck Temple in Bel Air, California on June 13, 2012 who had invited him to speak and to have lunch. Moreover, Farrell went on to say that  the Alarcon/Mitchell report last year showed that we had spent $4 billion on the death penalty since it was reintroduced in 1978 and expanded in 1979.  Since that time we have executed 13 men, which breaks down to roughly $308 million per execution.

Farrell also feels that it’s not just the cost factor but it is inhumane to put someone to death regardless of the way it is executed. This Author also feels the same way as Farrell does, especially since the “Innocence Project” started that hundreds of men and women have been exonerated and set free because of DNA Testing proving their innocence.

Life without the possibility of parole costs LESS than the death penalty

Above Evonne from safecalifornia.org supervising me and other volunteer callers who were urging Voters to say YES on Proposition 34 which replaces the Death Penalty with Life in Prison without any chance of Parole and saves taxpayers 186 Million Dollars per year, and most importantly, keeps prisoners who are found innocent years later alive so they can be freed…

An Oxymoron about the Death Sentence.

Many people think that the death penalty costs less than life in prison with absolutely no chance of parole, but that’s just not true. According to a June 2011 study by former death penalty prosecutor and federal judge Arthur L. Alarcón, and law professor Paula Mitchell, California has spent $4 billion on the death penalty since 1978 and that death penalty trials are 20 times more expensive than trials seeking a sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole.

Replace and save

By replacing the death penalty with life in prison without possibility of parole, California taxpayers would save well over $100 million every year, as well as hundreds of millions in one-time savings.  Our broken death penalty system puts California on track to spend $1 billion dollars in the next five years. Our resources would be better spent on law enforcement, violence prevention and in our kids’ schools.  We need more teachers in the classroom, not more lawyers in the courtroom.
