BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) held their Fifth Annual Heroes Celebration at the exclusive Mr. C Hotel in Beverly Hills to Award Comedian Kathy Griffin and UCLA’s “Operation Mend” founder Ronald Katz for their commitment to Veterans and their Families. IAVA member and Dancing With the Stars champion J.R. Martinez was the master of ceremonies for the evening. Martinez spoke of the unemployment and unstable healthcare Veterans face after serving and being discharged from active Military Service back into civilian life, and hoped that the event would raise awareness so that everyone and anyone could participate in supporting a Veteran’s transition from Military to civilian life.

The New Greatest Generationsays the cover on Time Magazine…

“On August 11, 2011, five IAVA Member Veterans were featured on the cover of Time Magazine. This article marks an important turning point to recognize the talent and accomplishments of our newest generation of vets.” (All photos below by Terry Richards, Columnist, Veterans News Service Los Angeles). Writer’s Note:  It appears to at least me anyway, that IAVA is the most aggressive, politically savvy, and successful Veterans Service Organization to fight for and get the job done for  its Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans Rights and Benefits since Vietnam Veterans of America was founded in 1978… I give them a big thumbs-up!!!

In photos below Actress Kathy Griffin was stunningly beautiful in looks dress, and style, and at her best in comedy, but most importantly revealing her sincere concern for Veterans..

After accepting her Award, Kathy, along with a few great jokes that kept everyone laughing, speaks from her Heart about her concern for Veterans. (All photos below by Terry Richards, Columnist, Veterans News Service Los Angeles).

I asked Kathy what her take was on homeless Veterans in that Congress was only appropriating 7,000-10,000 HUD-VASH Housing Vouchers per year when currently there was an estimated 70,000 homeless Veterans, and that Congress could remedy the homeless Veterans’ plight by simply Appropriating 70,000 Housing Vouchers. Kathy’s response was let’s get out the names of those Members of Congress that are hindering the Appropriations of more or all 70,000 Housing Vouchers, and that perhaps IAVA could lead that fight!!!
